Judith Benson, founder of Clear Water PSI, profiled in Irrigation & Green Industry News magazine’s “Women in Landscaping.” Ms. Benson is one of four women chosen to be included in the 2013 articles.
In effort to expand awareness of outdoor water use in the area, the City of Leesburg recently held their first session of training for Certified Outdoor Advisers in the Neighbor H2O Neighbor program. This pilot-program was offered exclusively to residents within Royal Highlands and Plantation developments. If positive feedback from the community indicates a successful outcome, the City may expand the program into other communities and developments.
Al Purvis, Chief Operator with the City of Leesburg stated “We want to raise awareness about outdoor water use in our service area and thought what better way than to find neighbors willing to share this with their neighbors.” Leesburg staff has been providing irrigation assessments and water conservation tips for a number of years. They know the benefits of educating consumers about these sometimes troublesome and costly systems.
The City contracted with Judith Benson of Clear Water PSI to create the program, Judy and Curt Benson presented the initial educational session. The 5-section interactive course covered topics ranging from roots to solar rays and provided realistic data that can be shared easily. The volunteers dedicated two consecutive days of their time to complete a 10-hour training session consisting of 8-hours class study, activities and discussion followed by 2-hours outdoors training.
Comments offered by the new Outdoor Advisers included:
“It was presented in a manner I could understand.”
“Thanks for a very informative seminar.”
“I enjoyed the class. It was very informative and I gained a lot of useful information.”
“Very interesting and educational, enjoyed it very much… Thank you – Great Class and great instructors.”
And now to meet the Neighbor H2O Neighbor Outdoor Advisers! Please congratulate your neighbors and city staff members for
their efforts – then ask them what they can share with you!

Congratulations to Judy and Keith Ramker of Leesburg for receiving Florida Yards & Neighborhoods’ recognition as a Florida Friendly Yard – the first in Lake County! This rigorous program consists of 9 Florida Friendly principles incorporated into the creation and maintenance of a property.Practice of the principles are verified by an interview and inspection conducted at the location.
The Ramker’s actively researched and selected a palate of over 25 different trees, plants, shrubs and grasses creating an inviting environment, including those with fluttering wings of brilliant colors.
Clear Water PSI was pleased to be a part of the Ramker’s transformation, contracted to design and implement the irrigation system’s renovation. The combination of Florida Friendly Landscape™ and efficient irrigation produced a whopping 65% reduction in outdoor water use! The Ramker’s efforts have resulted with a beautiful example of today’s Florida Friendly Yard.
We’re doing some fairly large renovations to our website, so you may encounter some broken links and images in the next few days. If you have subscribed to our RSS feed you will need to update your link as the feed URL has changed. For the time being we will not be offering a newsletter as the software we used to publish them is not compatible with our new site, but this may return in the future if we can find (or create) a replacement. If you are linking to any of our pages other than the home page you will probably need to update your links, as nearly every thing has moved!
As always, your feedback is appreciated and we hope you enjoy the new site!
On Saturday, February 11th from 10:30 to 11:30am, Judy Benson of Clear Water PSI will be giving a class on Sprinkler & Landscape Residential Renovations at the Central Florida Landscape & Garden Fair.
This is a FREE event – stop by and check out the class and our booth!
In a massively comprehensive article published in the Nov – Dec issue of Water Efficiency Magazine, Carol Brzozowski talked to nearly every sector of the water industry about the ways we are encouraging efficient irrigation practices. From the manufacturers and suppliers to irrigation and landscaping contractors, everyone got a chance to have their say, and for the most part we spoke with one voice.
Judy Benson, President of Clear Water PSI contributed heavily to the article, describing our focus on improving existing irrigation systems to increase their efficiency. A philosophy later echoed by David Johnson, Rainbird’s Director of Corporate Marketing. Technology and good practices are key at all levels, including that of the property owners and manufacturers. The manufacturers such as Rainbird, Hunter, and Toro have done their part in bringing us weather based and remote monitoring systems, and Clear Water PSI leads the industry in (and often helping to define) best practices for efficient irrigation. All that remains is for you, the property owner, to allow us to implement those practices and technologies on your behalf!
